<br />
Long time not posted anything, the car is still alive.<br />
<br />
Refreshing still continue , some Hicas parts were replaced <br />
<br />

<br />
There's still some other parts waiting for refreshing the rear (Nismo silent block and Spoon rigid collars ) . I recently add Nismo rear Lower A-arm and upper link in the waiting parts following some remarks made during the annual mandatory technical controle.<br /><br />If all goes well ( if my mechanics is available) the rear subframe will be taken out this winter, sanded,repainted and equipped with all the waiting parts for 2020.<br /><br />In the meantime, I still drove it here and there:<br />
<br />
At Spa with some friends during the meeting organised by "Les bruleurs de gommes"<br />

<br />
Yeah, the 33 still exist (sort of) even if fate struck again...<br />But more about that later, now it's time to speak about what had been done in February alongside the strut tower renovation.<br /><b><br />Part 1 : Renovation </b><br />
<br />
As I said in my previous spot, rust took its toll but now it's fixed. As the body shop seems to well know the R33 (for a continental Europe shop), I decided to do some others small fixes on the car.<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><u>Pillar gauges</u> : Even if it was functionnal, I condamned the air vent with my previous installation and it was far from esthetically nice. So say hello to the pillar gauge mount.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UlF8PNFSgyA/WZfhRKUBPmI/AAAAAAAACoY/T_KA0evz1Zkf9Lhhuh6JDjW4R2u4PlQYgCKgBGAs/s1600/16935646_10154197530732477_199891315_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="901" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UlF8PNFSgyA/WZfhRKUBPmI/AAAAAAAACoY/T_KA0evz1Zkf9Lhhuh6JDjW4R2u4PlQYgCKgBGAs/s320/16935646_10154197530732477_199891315_o.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<ul>
<li><u>Repainting the motor covers</u> : Polished cover seems always cool on the internet but the result on mine was not pretty. So goodbye to polish and hello again the black paint. And just for the bling, I choose a vermiculous paint instead of a classical one.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n3aZfq2Z7kg/WZfibdG1tdI/AAAAAAAACok/ysMQGUD6SBYK8sS9XUXsL7rPkBgLbFYfgCKgBGAs/s1600/DSCF1318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="683" data-original-width="1024" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n3aZfq2Z7kg/WZfibdG1tdI/AAAAAAAACok/ysMQGUD6SBYK8sS9XUXsL7rPkBgLbFYfgCKgBGAs/s320/DSCF1318.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<ul>
<li><u>Replacing the third light in the spoiler : </u>It seems that some leds were dead on mine so I ask the body shop to repair that. When the guy take it out, it appeared that it was already repair once but not in the best way (a lot of sealant was used to cover the real state of the lights)</li>
</ul>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uPUZlxFDmYo/WZfjxnQyY-I/AAAAAAAACo4/3MarvKIFImw4EDyZC3IFwrZpEb8W6wr-ACKgBGAs/s1600/16487875_10212624102467157_5707634611468643440_o.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="901" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uPUZlxFDmYo/WZfjxnQyY-I/AAAAAAAACo4/3MarvKIFImw4EDyZC3IFwrZpEb8W6wr-ACKgBGAs/s320/16487875_10212624102467157_5707634611468643440_o.jpg" width="180" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">What really lies below a lot of sealant ....</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
So at this point I was pretty happy, the car was nicely refreshed and the only step that was left was a remapping of the ECU.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T0OUbTLzeKU/WZfknH-m_hI/AAAAAAAACpE/12E0qJZyZvAwpAQZrW0pfO-P_WtTKYyawCKgBGAs/s1600/17359413_10213023198964320_87587538712785327_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="901" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T0OUbTLzeKU/WZfknH-m_hI/AAAAAAAACpE/12E0qJZyZvAwpAQZrW0pfO-P_WtTKYyawCKgBGAs/s320/17359413_10213023198964320_87587538712785327_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Part 2 : when fate strike again</b><br />
<br />
So begin May, I went by Evolve performance to take car of the mapping part.<b><br /></b>All goes well until the car suddenly shut down ...<br />We check the oil pressure, timing belt, etc ... All seems Ok but the car won't restart or only a few seconds and with a rattle sound totally not reassuring ...<br />
<br />
As the boss of Evolve perfomance is also a Skyline owner and had already work on some RB26 by himself, I decided to let him the car for repairi ...<br />At this moment, I was so upset that my only idea was to repair it and sell it as soon as possible.<br /><br />
So what happened?<br />
<br />
Basically, the bearing rod on piston n°5 welded with the crankshaft<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3yZn35nofBg/WZfndfMYJmI/AAAAAAAACpg/JKe8LWGbq3cTU29c-WJUaFX1UI4l45ATwCKgBGAs/s1600/18193351_10213467549392803_3730584133403455925_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="809" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3yZn35nofBg/WZfndfMYJmI/AAAAAAAACpg/JKe8LWGbq3cTU29c-WJUaFX1UI4l45ATwCKgBGAs/s320/18193351_10213467549392803_3730584133403455925_o.jpg" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It seems that Nissan crankshaft have not the same dimension everywhere. When I decided to go on reinforced bearings rods, I asked the motorist which dimension I must take but he replied that the standard will be enough.<br />He was wrong but given my driving style with the 33 (more often cool than angry driving), it took some time to make some damage to the motor.<br /><br />I'm some sort of lucky that it happened on a dyno and that the pistons and chambers were intact.<br />
<br />So next step :<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Forged connecting rods (OEM woudl be good be the forged ones are easier to get).</li>
<li>"New" crankcase (in fact a used R32 one but with the reinforced end).</li>
<li>New bearings (included crankcase bearings which following the motorist were in bad shape ...).</li>
<li>Replanification of the cylinder head.</li>
<li>Complete new joint sets.</li>
</ul>
I don't go to forged piston partly for a question of budget and partly because I didn't seek for power.<br />Even if I kept it, I'd rather spend money on the chassis instead.<br />
<br />
The work already begun and is now at this stage<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b0t2h8VGgAY/WZfqKh-OroI/AAAAAAAACp0/p0KWERpJVh0UALWu7LArlHX3n9ftQq7kACKgBGAs/s1600/20961211_1326309814133009_1125468373_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b0t2h8VGgAY/WZfqKh-OroI/AAAAAAAACp0/p0KWERpJVh0UALWu7LArlHX3n9ftQq7kACKgBGAs/s320/20961211_1326309814133009_1125468373_o.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /> <b>Part 3 : What's next ?</b><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And here comes the question again. Just before part 2, I decide to keep the car regarding all the work done on it (and the stories that are connected to that car).<br /><br />When the motor broke (again) , I must say that it was the last straw that breaks the camel back.<br />Since the begining it had been a love/hate story (or drive/repair). <br />I invested a lot of money (too much to be honest) in that car and the running costs/ upgrade costs are not low ( more if I look how much I really drive the car ) .<br />There's also two other things that I consider :<br />
<ul>
<li>I always fear that fixing the next trouble will be beyond reach (budget speaking or will ).</li>
<li>I'm more and more tempted to make a restomod project on a Datsun 510 or a
toyota Ke70 and the budget is not infinite (I always have my 1976 mazda
808 and my BRZ aside) </li>
</ul>
So the first reaction was : Fix it so you have something right to sell. <br />Six months later, I'm less decided to go to this route. <br />I suppose that I have to drive it a bit when it will be repaired before taking any decision.<br /><br />As I already said some months ago , to be followed ...<br /><br /><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

After some search and personnal hesitation, I found a body shop which can take care of it.<br />The body shop's owner has a passion for japanese sports cars and had some gold in his hands.<br />He was kind enough to send me pictures of every step of his work so I'll let them here.<br />No words needed, the pictures will do the talk :<br />

<br />
After much thought and some up and down about the GTR, I finally decided to go on with it.<br />
<br />
After some fixing on the exhaust line (consequence of my previous offroad adventure ath the beginning of this year), I was able to drive it again.<br />
<br />
As foreseen, I went to "Le Mans classique" with it and enjoy the 500km ride even with my still non working aircon (Ok, I admit that it will be more pleaseant with a working one).<br />
Concerning the event itself it was huge and full of beautiful cars but I'm must admit that I 'm always a bit sad that there is so few old japanese cars outside the "Z" <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://scontent-bru2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13640972_986306984821103_2732917336565358743_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://scontent-bru2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/13640972_986306984821103_2732917336565358743_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Thanks again to the Datsun france Club that allow me to take part with them</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
But much more that 2x500km trip that's the small rides were I enjoy the car back. What I think finally decide me is some chating with during a photoshoot we made with two members of <a href="https://www.facebook.com/okutan102/?fref=ts">Okutan 102</a> facebook page.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oPlEbVIkI1Q/V6OepksgAQI/AAAAAAAAB6o/Z5R2tmKpxxQsVhJySLHgr7eM5JGvEf1BgCEw/s1600/BCNR33LCproject-3259.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oPlEbVIkI1Q/V6OepksgAQI/AAAAAAAAB6o/Z5R2tmKpxxQsVhJySLHgr7eM5JGvEf1BgCEw/s320/BCNR33LCproject-3259.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wMLXt4VU-1w/V6OepEWh9fI/AAAAAAAAB6o/TdG5FEwPBYsqKKzn881BT3pjJGsHPO8ogCEw/s1600/BCNR33LCproject-3283.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wMLXt4VU-1w/V6OepEWh9fI/AAAAAAAAB6o/TdG5FEwPBYsqKKzn881BT3pjJGsHPO8ogCEw/s320/BCNR33LCproject-3283.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Even those two guys are more honda fan, they've a lot of passion for all japanese cars. I already helped them with my two other toys ( <a href="https://www.facebook.com/okutan102/photos/?tab=album&album_id=781131875346518&qsefr=1" target="_blank">My 1976 Mazda 818</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/okutan102/photos/?tab=album&album_id=750926985033674" target="_blank">my daily BRZ</a> ) and it's always a pleasure to chat with them.<br />
So speaking with them I realize that I only focused on the weak points of my cars and forget how lucky I was to drive such a car in continental Europe.<br />
<br />
So enough sentimental chatting, let's take a look on what we'll come next.<br />
<br />
First : front turret rust problem. It's a well known problem of our Nissan and my car was unfortunatly not spare by it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ThK1IILzo0E/V6OkYcQGBhI/AAAAAAAAB68/8Q8-rbvtUz4HRFYJrbOzhwEuZAryCiLEQCLcB/s1600/5V2A1366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ThK1IILzo0E/V6OkYcQGBhI/AAAAAAAAB68/8Q8-rbvtUz4HRFYJrbOzhwEuZAryCiLEQCLcB/s320/5V2A1366.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_Pkti6XAIw/V6OkYf7b6wI/AAAAAAAAB64/D60uk7mA8OU8Id_ZfXXQW3GgabDripSEgCLcB/s1600/5V2A1367.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q_Pkti6XAIw/V6OkYf7b6wI/AAAAAAAAB64/D60uk7mA8OU8Id_ZfXXQW3GgabDripSEgCLcB/s320/5V2A1367.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vTzplchaSto/V6OkYe1JZiI/AAAAAAAAB60/hoOiDp57lLkysqrljHgDko-L64G4CUNigCLcB/s1600/5V2A1365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vTzplchaSto/V6OkYe1JZiI/AAAAAAAAB60/hoOiDp57lLkysqrljHgDko-L64G4CUNigCLcB/s320/5V2A1365.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll try to find someone who could solve this AND my aircon problem in the same time during winter so I can enjoy my car fully next summer.<br />
<br />
In the list of other jobs to do, there's also :<br />
<ol>
<li>front headlights replacement. The conversion (for LHD drive) was not perfectly done and the plastic had worn a lot inside...</li>
<li>Find a beter/proper placement for the gauges as their actual position have too much taste of unfinished business.</li>
<li>Check the pressure regulator. As it's probably still the original one, I wonder if I'll go for a new OEM one (still wait news from My Nissan dealer if we could get one in EU) or directly use a <a href="http://www.rhdjapan.com/border-fuel-delivery-pipe-kit-bcnr33.html" target="_blank">BORDER(tm) Fuel delivery kit</a> (replacing the rail in the same time). <u><b>If anyone and an advice on this part, I'm listening </b></u></li>
</ol>
Once those change will be made, I will take care of the chassis with (in mid/longterm depending of the budget):<br />
<ul>
<li>replacement of all the old bushings</li>
<li>installation of front brace</li>
<li>Installation of Nismo link set front and rear</li>
</ul>
I did'nt abandon the idea of making a S-tune replica with my car but the price of those "simple pieces of plastic" vs real benefit of it made bumpers and side skirt replacement go down to the very bottom of the list.<br />
<br />
So still a lot of things to do but decision is made to go further so let's roll (and may be start playing lottery too :p )<br />
<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-etz2LMV62PQ/Vxtu6mKziGI/AAAAAAAAB4Y/dUZKBKg2zbwEcMHmc8Wh4CQo6JEOtRybwCLcB/s1600/IMG_8653.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
Long time I didn't post here.<br />
<br />
The 33 is still alive but I must admit that since the "Spa classic", I didn't drive it a lot. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Last summer, I let it to my brother-in-law's garage for a complete check of the underneath and treatment of some rust points (mainly on the rear section).<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Pp1dDLeNOk/Vxth7dx3EJI/AAAAAAAAB3w/qFOKWLUV8lMg9nckTdLU0Bi0SEdJfbuuQCLcB/s1600/DSCF0884.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Pp1dDLeNOk/Vxth7dx3EJI/AAAAAAAAB3w/qFOKWLUV8lMg9nckTdLU0Bi0SEdJfbuuQCLcB/s320/DSCF0884.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-spcrPPOTFNs/VxtiGuf5TuI/AAAAAAAAB34/GAwQlg3kLUkNJ4tQjlaN129Z_S9oGhvygCLcB/s1600/DSCF0887.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-spcrPPOTFNs/VxtiGuf5TuI/AAAAAAAAB34/GAwQlg3kLUkNJ4tQjlaN129Z_S9oGhvygCLcB/s320/DSCF0887.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DWDg-GHQLb8/VxtiGiOcp0I/AAAAAAAAB30/6MIXNYSM8fwefNc9ulnnKyIw_BNkEcY2wCLcB/s1600/DSCF0861.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DWDg-GHQLb8/VxtiGiOcp0I/AAAAAAAAB30/6MIXNYSM8fwefNc9ulnnKyIw_BNkEcY2wCLcB/s320/DSCF0861.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then, my back problems came back and I prefer to drive more my BRZ instead.<br />
Not really because it's a way more comfortable (it's lower, less accessible, and quite as "harsh" as the GTR) but rather beacause it's more modern (with heater seats which help a little with the back, less consumption, working airco ...), more agile and it allow me to come a way lot closer to "fun within legal limits" than with the GTR to be honnest.<br />
<br />
To add more doubt in my mind, start of the year with the skyline was bad<br />
<br />
Cold and wet condition with summer tyres (and possible addition of some oil on the road) and the rear decided to suddenly go first at the exit of a roundabout to end up like this. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-bru2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t31.0-8/12487149_10208855080803971_2643198786002879235_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://scontent-bru2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t31.0-8/12487149_10208855080803971_2643198786002879235_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Seeing the picture today, I realize that I had a lot of luck to be stopped by the ditch were the rear fall. Some meters sooner or later (into the small woods) and damages could be lot worse.<br />
<br />
<br />
Mechanic wasn't affected (except a lot of mud in the exhaust), the front lip was destroyed and rear and driver car door sill need some repairs<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I must admit that at this moment, I was very tempted to put it on sale as it was. <br />
I was still in the same state of mind that in my post from october 2013 and this incident was sort of "<b class="b2"> </b><span class="b2">t</span><span class="b3">he drop</span><span class="b4"> of</span><span class="b5"> water </span><span class="b4">tha</span><span class="b3">t </span><span class="b4">ha</span><span class="b5">s made t</span><span class="b4">he </span><span class="b5">vase</span><span class="b4"> ov</span><span class="b3">erflow"...</span><br />
<span class="b3">But after some thoughts, I decided to repair it (at least to be able to take part at "Le Mans classic" this year) and see later what to do ...</span><br />
<br />
<span class="b3">So some weeks ago, the Skyline was finally repaired and the old front lip was replaced door a new Greddy version. </span><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span class="b3"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-etz2LMV62PQ/Vxtu6mKziGI/AAAAAAAAB4Y/dUZKBKg2zbwEcMHmc8Wh4CQo6JEOtRybwCLcB/s1600/IMG_8653.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-etz2LMV62PQ/Vxtu6mKziGI/AAAAAAAAB4Y/dUZKBKg2zbwEcMHmc8Wh4CQo6JEOtRybwCLcB/s320/IMG_8653.jpg" width="320" /></a> </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<span class="b3"> So it's back (in her box at least). As I said before, I intended to take part at the "Le Mans classic" and some other events in the next few weeks but after that ...<br /><br />It is a formidable car (and it allows me to meet a lot of people with some of them who became good friends) but I still have the feeling of walking on the edge with it<span style="color: #0000ee;"><u>.</u></span></span><br />
<span class="b3">I think that all the drawbacks (and to be honnest the costs/driven kilometers) are too close of overflowing the good memories it brings.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="b3">Only future will tell what will come next ... </span><br />

<br />
This week-end I had the opportunity to take the GTR for a spin on the SPa francorchamps track during the 2015 edition of Spa classics ( <a href="http://peterauto.peter.fr/en/evenement/retour/id/16/nom/Spa-Classic" target="_blank">More info here</a> ).<br />
When I speak of "take it for a spin", I didn't intend to take the expression by the word but as it was my first "wheel on track", the risk stood there.<br />
<br />
But besides the small spin, it was a lot of fun. I hope that I could make other track sessions later during this year.<br />
<br />
So enough talkin, let's the video speak<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/nBJSA4wT6PI/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nBJSA4wT6PI?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<br />
P.S.: I also had the opportunity to meet a very rare machine in Europe, ancestor of my skyline<br />
<br />

<br />
Concerning the first part (who interest us on this blog), I had planned 3 main things to do :<br />
<br />
1) Taking off the interior on the right side. I discovered some rust around the rear right window so I decided to take care of it. To be fair I asked it to someone more competent than me but he asked me to remove the interior by myself.<br />
<br />
Result in pictures :<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4pgQoc7PCZU/VK7Uhqz-K9I/AAAAAAAABtM/lGHdO5u4Kw4/s1600/IMG_1702.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4pgQoc7PCZU/VK7Uhqz-K9I/AAAAAAAABtM/lGHdO5u4Kw4/s1600/IMG_1702.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">First, removing the seats</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7_USRFezFDo/VK7UhLes49I/AAAAAAAABtI/3G4IiL0IzzY/s1600/IMG_1700.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7_USRFezFDo/VK7UhLes49I/AAAAAAAABtI/3G4IiL0IzzY/s1600/IMG_1700.JPG" height="240" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-95y8h083sBw/VK7Uhx8LMuI/AAAAAAAABtQ/bh-NDEJadus/s1600/IMG_1699.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-95y8h083sBw/VK7Uhx8LMuI/AAAAAAAABtQ/bh-NDEJadus/s1600/IMG_1699.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Interior taken off</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TXJIaUIFU8M/VK7Uko2rJEI/AAAAAAAABtg/x8B_SikBths/s1600/IMG_1704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TXJIaUIFU8M/VK7Uko2rJEI/AAAAAAAABtg/x8B_SikBths/s1600/IMG_1704.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hVgGVPPwLJg/VK7UmfDkXcI/AAAAAAAABto/f_cDybOBYBs/s1600/IMG_1705.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hVgGVPPwLJg/VK7UmfDkXcI/AAAAAAAABto/f_cDybOBYBs/s1600/IMG_1705.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Traces of rust</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
There's more rust at the bottom ofB-pillar but I don't have taken pictures of it yet.<br />
<br />
2) Changing High/low beam settings. The objective was to have all lights working when I asked high beam. I must admit that I chose the fastest and easier way to do it (soldiering some parts of the switch, for more info : http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/296785-bcnr33-high-low-beam-same-time.html ).<br />
It's not elegant but it works and that's all that matter for me.<br />
<br />
3) Testing the low pressure switch of aircon to find why my airocn pump doesn't engage. (will be done tomorrow I hope).<br />
<br />
And that's all for this month. With rear audio and seats taken off, the car is louder and I must admit that I found ride in it less pleasant so it will stay at the garage until begin february.<br />
<br />
P.S.: the car overtook the 20000km riding since the motor rebuilt \o/<br />

<br />
Long time I didn't post here.<br />
The 33 still runs, I drive it here and there and meet her sisters<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/t31.0-8/10687242_10152302285977175_885007644742172551_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/t31.0-8/10687242_10152302285977175_885007644742172551_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Nice T-shirt don't you think :) (Yes , the covering of my front lip is a bit torn :( )</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">R34 GTT vs R33GTR</td></tr>

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/t31.0-8/10644542_632099606906835_7152810592922994289_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/t31.0-8/10644542_632099606906835_7152810592922994289_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">An immaculate 32 with a true carbon front lip</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
So it still drive but I must admit that I was close to sell it following trouble with the injector in August.<br />
It was not a big trouble by itself but the accumulation of trouble since the start of the project began to weight a little.<br />
Fortunatly, I didn't find anyone interested for a reasonably price so I kept it.<br />
<br />
So the renovation process slowly continue. I took off the front lip, remove the covering and give it to a specialist to repair and repaint it. I also took this opportunity to replace clip and screws taht hold the lip by new ones.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Something is missing here.</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
As rust began to appear where the front shocks damper are fixed (sorry don't know the english word for that), I asked for that being repaired too.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pq9YkIfZ4U4/VJ21cgAv6nI/AAAAAAAABsk/5tfCdnXJUyM/s1600/IMG_1660.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pq9YkIfZ4U4/VJ21cgAv6nI/AAAAAAAABsk/5tfCdnXJUyM/s1600/IMG_1660.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Goodbye rust :)</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
There is still some rust around the rear right window that should normally be treated in january or february. I'm a bit afraid of this part because I must take the interior by myself and I must admit that I'm bit scared to do something wrong and brake something (as skyline interior are not easy to find in Europe ... ).<br />
We'll see, I'll try to make pictures od the "dismantling" when I'll do it.<br />
<br />
P.S.: For Aki, mazda evolution in picture (next step, full paint, revised motor and custom inox exhaust).<br />

In my last post, i was talking about pursuing the upgrade of the skyline or buying an "oldie" aside.<br />Since then I thought more and more about it and then came the opportunity to buy a 1976 Mazda 818 coupé (known as "Grand Familia" in Japan, 808 in US, ...) in very good condition.<br />
<br />
<br />

<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">So I took it : I didn't
want to miss such an opportunity to find a clean old japanese car.<br /> On
the european market, it is everyday more difficult for a reasonable
budget to find a pearl like that.</span></span><br /><br />I will keep the skyline but i think that I'm done with upgrade/modification part . <br />Now that the car is stable from a mechanic point of view, I just want to enjoy it (and replace/renewed the older/most worn parts).<br /><br /><span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">Some hours ago, in the
already black night, I was quietly driving back to my flat, listening
the soundtrack of Format67's documentary "We write the streets". </span></span><br />
<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">The
blue lights from the dashboard (again thanks to AKI for the idea) and
gauges were slighty glowing in the car and I thought "That's it".</span></span><br />
<br />
<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null"> It's
difficult to explain but this simple moment was one of those which
nearly erase all the difficulties that happened before.</span></span> <br />
<br />
<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">I really do appreciate sport
cars (as photographic subject and from a technical point of view) and I
still want to test my R33 on a track but I'm not sure that I will
really appreciate it so much</span></span>.<br /><br /><span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">Of course, speed and power
are generally the first thought that comes at mind, when you look at
documentaries such "We write the streets" or internet sites as
"Speedhunters", but you can also just enjoy the car for what it is and
the whole story within it.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">As I already said it before;
I was not a huge fan of the Skyline at first. It was, for me, just a
rare (on european scene) japanese sport car. That’s all. </span></span><br />
<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">But, after all
the time I spent working on it, it slowly became <u><b>my</b></u> car (and not just "a" car). <br />Even if I didn't exploit it to its maximum potential, I
appreciate being behind the wheel and that's all that matter.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">P.S.: </span></span><br />
<span data-measureme="1"><span class="null">For those who did'nt know Format67 yet, I recommand Daniel Michaelis's channel on you tube :<br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/fastmichaelis?feature=watch">http://www.youtube.com/user/fastmichaelis?feature=watch</a><br />And the soundtrack I was talking about:<br /><a href="http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/We+Write+The+Streets+Part+2+Soundtrack/8611046">http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/We+Write+The+Streets+Part+2+Soundtrack/8611046</a></span></span><br />

<br />
Some news about the car itself :<ul>
<li>The OEM wheels had been repainted and received new OEM center cap for the winter. (picture when the car will come back in winter mode)</li>
<li>The oil relocation kit is back with more reliable fastening system. </li>
<li>There's still has some tiny oil leakage in the system to be checked (though, the oil level stay stable)</li>
<li>I didn't have find yet why my air conditionning isn't working (There's gas in the system and the ECU send the order)</li>
<li>Sealing of ATTESA system (near the gearbox) still need some checking and renewal.</li>
<li>I still have to put thermal tape on elbows and te downpipe.</li>
</ul>
So, the car is fine and rides well but ther's still some work to do to make it back to a clean state.<br /> <br />
<br />

<br />
Since my last post, i have the opportunity to take part in a large meeting organised by a french magazine dedicated to japanese cars ( Autoworks : <a href="http://www.autoworks-mag.net/">http://www.autoworks-mag.net/</a> ).<br />There also was<span class="short_text" id="result_box" lang="en"><span class="hps"> a round of</span> the French <span class="hps">championship</span> <span class="hps">drift and i must admit that it was great to see that.<br />I hope that i can see more rounds next year (so some road trip in sight given where the rounds took places).</span></span><br />
Anyway, back to my car, here's some pictures taken during the event that I found on the web.<br />

<a href="https://www.facebook.com/allcarsphotography" target="_blank"></a><br /><br />Now that the meetings season is nearly done, it's time to wonder a little about the future.<br />When I first decided to bought a skyline it was more to have something different from the rest of the european automotive scene rather than because i was a skyline fan.<br />From this point of view, it is a succes when you see how people react when they see the car.<br />
I must admit that some reactions still surprised me even if i'm aware that the skyline is pretty rare in Europe.<br />On the other side with the biggest problems solved, I start to realise that such great could be this car, it's very difficult to take pleasure with it on the open roads that i have without exceeding legal speed limits.<br />Compare to my ex old mini, it's a very frustrating situation.<br />
Given the time and money that i put into it, i will keep it some years (still have to do some road triping with it) but i'm still wonder what to do next :<br />
<ol>
<li>Just fixing the last problems and drive it like it is (more as a GT for long road trips) and maybe looking for a japanese oldtimer car for fun on open road.</li>
<li>Continuing with equipping it with more fancy stuff (oil radiator, metal water radiator, NISMO suspension parts, etc ...) .</li>
</ol>
I don't have any answers right now. I think that some tests on a closed track would be needed to take a decision. <br /><br />So as they say<br />

Hello everyone<br />
<br />
Long time i didn't post anything new here.<br />
So since last time, the boost controller, gauges and NISMO carpets were installed:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z0poiCh1YwM/UhzneUcqE-I/AAAAAAAABKk/gedjNgSiwGA/s1600/IMG_5202.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z0poiCh1YwM/UhzneUcqE-I/AAAAAAAABKk/gedjNgSiwGA/s320/IMG_5202.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Gauges installed : <br />
AFR one replace the ash tray <br />
Greddy one (oil, water, EGT) replace the right vent (but still need some cosmetic adaptation)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Some week after that i must go to the annual "technical check" mandatory in Belgium. <br />
The car was rejected because the CO percentage was to high. <br />
After replacing the sensors and the catalyst (by a sport one with 76mm entry and exit), the problem was still there.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JMi60msV9gs/UhzkCbyT9kI/AAAAAAAABKY/6YwAXE_D3oU/s1600/IMG_0893.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;">, <img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JMi60msV9gs/UhzkCbyT9kI/AAAAAAAABKY/6YwAXE_D3oU/s320/IMG_0893.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The new "sport" catalyst and mounting of AFR and EGT sensor</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
After some internet research and help from an french skyline owner, i found the origin of the problem. As I choose a "generic" mapped 32 ECU for SP98 use instead of full mapping, there was some conflict with the R33 harness.<br />
Eventually, the solution was pretty simple (two wires to switch on one sensor and a link between two pin to make on the ECU). (fro more details, see : See also : <a href="http://nistune.com/docs/R32%20GTR%20ECU%20on%20R33%20GTR.pdf">http://nistune.com/docs/R32%20GTR%20ECU%20on%20R33%20GTR.pdf</a> )<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Q53Jzs0oGs/UhzsOq7b-VI/AAAAAAAABK4/0rU5lfdHqq4/s1600/sondes_R32surfaisceauR33.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="226" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Q53Jzs0oGs/UhzsOq7b-VI/AAAAAAAABK4/0rU5lfdHqq4/s320/sondes_R32surfaisceauR33.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Situation before and after the mods. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I know that remapping or not for SP98 is always source of conflict in
the european GTR owners community and ok may be I didn't choose the best
way to solve it but I didn't (and still don't) have a unlimited budget
so I could'nt afford a "new" motor and a full appropriate mapping. <br />
Remapped 32 ECU seems the best and fastest way at the time.<br />
<br />
Anyway, problem solved, technical check OK, i eventually can enjoy riding my 33.<br />
<br />
So
last week-end I decided to take a right south to make a visit to some
friends in Alsace and enjoy the mountainous roads there.<br />
<br />
As it was a first one for me and the weather was not the brightest one (it was literally a drive into the clouds some times), it was a very calm ride .<br />
Anyway, I enjoyed this "first mountainous" experience et hope that i could do it again with better weather next year.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/3733/77326a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/3733/77326a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />So I look for some specialists to realise this idea.<br />
I found one (<a href="http://www.mikedsign.be/" target="_blank"> http://www.mikedsign.be/</a> ) not far from home and after some phone and mail exchanges, we agree on a project.<br /><br />And here is the result.<br />

I still have a "Format67" to place to finish it but it's almost done. I must say, i'm really happy with this project. It gives the car a nicer look without being "too much".<br />May be some people will think that the look doesn't completely match the performance but I'm happy with the result. <br />What do you think?Skodajockyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04092357742806378521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189580500550105634.post-2414549444392728522013-04-18T11:04:00.000-07:002013-04-18T11:04:21.841-07:00A week of mechanicalHello everyone, <br />
<br />
Last week my brother-in-law let me access his garage and tools for a week to work on the 33.<br />
Let's go with what have been done during this week :<br />
<br />
<u><b>1) Painting the center of brake discs </b></u><br />
Mines had a rusty aspect that was not very beautiful so i decided to change that.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yIB2kuPRSq8/UXAsLJmN0FI/AAAAAAAAAwk/ohq2jRdlTM0/s1600/IMG_0772.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yIB2kuPRSq8/UXAsLJmN0FI/AAAAAAAAAwk/ohq2jRdlTM0/s320/IMG_0772.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Brake disc before</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-twz9kHR3PEU/UXAtLfSLajI/AAAAAAAAAxM/lv-WjMJFPiE/s1600/IMG_0804.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-twz9kHR3PEU/UXAtLfSLajI/AAAAAAAAAxM/lv-WjMJFPiE/s320/IMG_0804.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Brake disc after treatment and painting</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<b><u>2) Installing NISMO carbon pillar garnish</u></b><br />
<br />
I had those since a long time but didn't had time to install it. Now it's done and that will fit perfectly with the future aesthetic change that I imagine.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EEnXrLWXVxU/UXAsMiooJGI/AAAAAAAAAw8/NPSIQEmGr9c/s1600/IMG_2374.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EEnXrLWXVxU/UXAsMiooJGI/AAAAAAAAAw8/NPSIQEmGr9c/s320/IMG_2374.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<u><b>3) Oil, Gearbox oil and front transferbox oil change.</b></u><br />
<br />
<u><b>4) Replacing of the OEM turbo outlet pipe with TOMEI ones </b></u><br />
One of the toughest job because those pipe are not the most accessible part in the car.<br />
I had to remove all the intakes part and need to disconnect the rear turbo to gain some space to work.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-suZFcY_b2vw/UXAt9hM_IcI/AAAAAAAAAxU/RqSk7TXz_G4/s1600/IMG_0808.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-suZFcY_b2vw/UXAt9hM_IcI/AAAAAAAAAxU/RqSk7TXz_G4/s320/IMG_0808.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Admission out, rear turbo disconnected and OEM outlet pipe down</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The second problem was that I realised to late that the pipes I received were R34 one's (TOMEI has two reference 421201for R34 and 421101 for R32/33).<br />
The problem is that I had a reprogrammed 32 ECU with 32 sensors (to allow me to drive with SP98 that we found in Europe). Those sensors don't have the same dimension than 33/34 ones.<br />
As I don't have time to exchange the pipes or order adaptators for 32, we were forced to do some welding to modify the pipes I had.<br />
<span class="" id="result_box" lang="en"><span class="hps">I felt really sorry to modify such perfect parts but I</span><span class="hps"></span> <span class="hps">thank</span> <span class="hps">the welder</span> <span class="hps">who works with</span> <span class="hps">my brother-in-law</span> <span class="hps">to allow me to go further</span><span class="hps"></span><span class="">.</span></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8x3ajxpmcqY/UXAsLklY7sI/AAAAAAAAAww/rIxE6DBcfgg/s1600/IMG_0807.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8x3ajxpmcqY/UXAsLklY7sI/AAAAAAAAAww/rIxE6DBcfgg/s320/IMG_0807.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Modified TOMEI outlet pipe</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<u><b>5) Cleaning the front strut bar</b></u><br />
No picture, just give a little refreshment to the bar and put a new "skyline GTR" sticker on it. <u><b> </b></u><br />
<br />
<u><b>6) Replacing the OEM 17" wheels with my 18" ones</b></u><br />
As the winter is finally gone, I decided to come back to the 18" wheels with "summer" tires<u><b> </b></u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cN0EjSC0PQo/UXAsNM7RRSI/AAAAAAAAAxE/G5Al6BP_x9I/s1600/IMG_2414.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cN0EjSC0PQo/UXAsNM7RRSI/AAAAAAAAAxE/G5Al6BP_x9I/s320/IMG_2414.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I nearly done all what I planned to do but i must admit that there were
some moments when I curse myself from wanting to do it (nearly) by
myself (i'm not mechanical at all for remembrance)<br />
Anyway, the job is finally done and I think I don't will make
any other "big work" on the car before a while (except solving my
airbag/horn trouble and finding someone to install a boost controller).<br />
<br />
<span class="" id="result_box" lang="en"><span class="hps">Next step:</span> <span class="hps">a few</span> <span class="hps">cosmetic changes</span>. <span class="hps">More photos</span> <span class="hps">early May</span> <span class="hps">I hope.<br /><br />Thanks for reading </span></span>Skodajockyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04092357742806378521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189580500550105634.post-51972454981224507942013-03-17T11:00:00.002-07:002013-03-25T11:33:50.201-07:00Kakimoto exhaust installed Hello,<br />
<br />
So last Friday I received a package from Japan (thanks to <a href="http://www.suruga-performance.com/" target="_blank">Suruga performance</a> for that) <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-52uwDKZyUV4/UUYAuBKxMJI/AAAAAAAAAq8/5qPqq6A88fM/s1600/IMG_0660.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-52uwDKZyUV4/UUYAuBKxMJI/AAAAAAAAAq8/5qPqq6A88fM/s320/IMG_0660.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So my new exhaust arrived with some other useful things (new Nissan coils and harness EGI, some Gaskets and the Tomeï outlet turbos pipes) to comeback on the road.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OLyPI3Shxkw/UUX-FMoMX3I/AAAAAAAAAqw/_lYskrGBmF4/s1600/2013-03-15+09.29.01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OLyPI3Shxkw/UUX-FMoMX3I/AAAAAAAAAqw/_lYskrGBmF4/s320/2013-03-15+09.29.01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />
As I was on holiday and my brother-in-law had some place in his garage for me to work, I didn't wait and change my coils, harness and the spark plugs immediately (ok, actually, it took me 2 hours but i'm far from being a mechanic).</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />
Result : the misfires were gone \o/. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't stop there and replace my Japspeed(tm) exhaust with the Kakimoto(tm) R one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The mid-silencer section of the Kakimoto R exhaust</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-amlqpGe2VRE/UUYCVAY56SI/AAAAAAAAArU/Lx0XxnrEAHg/s1600/IMG_0671.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-amlqpGe2VRE/UUYCVAY56SI/AAAAAAAAArU/Lx0XxnrEAHg/s320/IMG_0671.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">End section of the Kakimoto R (still with his protective sheet)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Beside being a beautiful piece (from my point of view), this new exhaust with his mid silencer is really quieter than the Japseed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What a change! And a good one.</div>
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/JJGd3jq5ot8?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe><br />
<br />
<br />
As the misfires were gone, I was able to tack my car back even if I must still replace the turbo outlet pipes. It was a real pleasure to drive it again. <br />
Next step, replacement of the turbo pipes during second week of april.<br />
I'll try to make some pictures of the work.<br />
<br />
To end this post, two shots of my precious (:p) after a quick wash (it needs it ...).<br />

<br />
So the run in continue but not as smooth than at the beginning.<br /><br />As I come close to the 2000km, i start to push the car a little higher in the rev.<br /><br />I discover that the car has some trouble around 5000rpm ( when i reached 5000, the indicator jumped between 4800 and 5200 rpm).<br />As turbo pressure stood stable, we thought that i had some misfires.<br />
Beside that, when we check the car with my brother-in-law, we also discovered that there was a crack in the turbo outelt pipe (front turbo).<br />
<br />So the car is back to the garage waiting for my last order :<br />
<br />
-) Tomeï outlet turbo pipes<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.tomeipowered-usa.com/usa/allen/NewsLetter/enews/jan13/image/580/019-eng.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.tomeipowered-usa.com/usa/allen/NewsLetter/enews/jan13/image/580/019-eng.jpg" width="222" /></a></div>
<br />
-) New gaskets for the turbo outlet<br />
<br />
-) New coils (and harness for the coils). I choose OEM ones because <br />
<ol>
<li>I found some feedbacks with durability trouble on Spitfire ones (and if something can go wrong in a car. I'll have the problem)</li>
<li>As tempting as the Okada plasma option is, my budget does not stretch.</li>
</ol>
-) New Kakimodo Type R exhaust system. As I intend to use my 33 to make some "long" distance, the kakimoto one will be better with his intermediate silencer than the noisy Japseed one I curently had. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.kakimotoracing.co.jp/images/illust/nissan/ns307.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://www.kakimotoracing.co.jp/images/illust/nissan/ns307.gif" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
-) New Iridium BKR7EIX spark plugs.<br /><br />Hope to receive the whole lot quickly (and find some time to fix all).<br /> </div>

<br />
No big news today, just received some little OEM parts to have a "proper" car.<br />
<ul>
<li>New sticker for front bar</li>
<li>New center caps for OEM wheels (as i will keep the original wheels to drive in winter/autumn with Nokian winter tyres, they will be reconditionned this summer) </li>
<li>Emblems (Not sure i took the right ref.)</li>
<li>Grommet screw (mine is nearly completely away)</li>
<li>I also received some clips to fix back inside the rear boot and new seals for the decat (not on the pics) </li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Muvh6i9skeE/UQzhWXIlPLI/AAAAAAAAAqU/n7h7UuCKevY/s1600/commande_suruga.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Muvh6i9skeE/UQzhWXIlPLI/AAAAAAAAAqU/n7h7UuCKevY/s320/commande_suruga.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I hope that good weather will come back soon so I can install all this stuff.Skodajockyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04092357742806378521noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189580500550105634.post-27030872277544161002013-01-13T07:05:00.002-08:002013-02-02T02:00:25.547-08:00Back on the road Hi everyone,<br />
<br />
<br />
I continue to run in the car, nearly 1100 km (and a oil change at 500) had been done so far. <br />
Everything run smooth for the moment.<br />
<br />
Still a little problem with the new airbag but soon i'll go to the official GTR (R35) belgian dealer who should have all the necessary to check and fix that.<br />
<br />
I 'll try to post pictures of the different places I go during the run in (even if the weather is not very good for the moment).<br />

The good news :<br />
<ul>
<li>The test on the audio system was positive </li>
<li>We finally find a convenient way to place the oil filter. </li>
<li>After 200km we don't have any mechanical issues (no water or oil leak at all).</li>
<li>Nismo submeter works well (so it means that i have an eletrical issue or a faulty sensor as the oil temp indicator didn't move at all).</li>
<li>The blue led lights for aircon, submeters and speedometer are just as i want (thanks Aki for the idea).</li>
<li>The 3M carbon covered front lip looks good (thanks again to Aki for the idea)</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The "less good news" (not really bad but still annoying)<br />
<ul>
<li>trouble with oil temp sensor</li>
<li>trouble with airbag (light on the speedometer is permanently lightened)</li>
<li>Horn didn't work (but the fuse is good)</li>
<li>The tyres on stock rims are not so good (but I already ordered some Nokian WR A3 XL to solve this. So i will have stock rims with winter tyres for winter time and 18" rims for the rest of the year) </li>
</ul>
Still some work to do but now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.<br />
<br />
And to conclude, some pictures (a little crapy sorry).<br />
<br />

Merry Christmas to everyone and a happy new year.<br /><br />@Aki : Thanks for your previous message but it seems that I can't answer it. Hope that i can add more (and better) pictures and news soon. <br />
So the car has started again. <br />
As you can see, there's still some work to do on the interior but it works.<br />
The RB26 works smoothly and the car has done a few kilometers without trouble.<br />
<br />
Still has to check oil sensor because the nismo oil temperature on the sub-meter didn't seem to work. <br />
I will test it tomorrow with the OEM gauge.<br />
<br />
If i can solve this part, i can finsih the interior and tune the audio parts.<br />
<br />
So still some work but i'm relieved that the biggest part is behind me now. Skodajockyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04092357742806378521noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189580500550105634.post-34476302805966763032012-11-18T07:16:00.000-08:002012-11-19T10:20:18.154-08:00Some newsLong time i didn't write something here. So let's correct this.<br />
<br />
The rebuilding of the motor goes on, so far following parts are (re)installed:<br />
<ul>
<li>N1 oil pump </li>
<li>N1 water pump</li>
<li>TOMEI Triple cam cover baffle plate</li>
<li>Intake</li>
<li>Nismo lightweight flywheel</li>
<li>Nismo sports clutch disc (coppermix)</li>
<li>Nismo oil cap</li>
<li>...</li>
</ul>
And the gearbox is also reconnected to the motor. <br />
That leave the exhaust/turbo side still to do before we could put the whole lot in the car.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X1rNuF23tiU/UKj40eQpaAI/AAAAAAAAAoE/cCvvbBBE5VE/s1600/Rebuilding_intake.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="202" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X1rNuF23tiU/UKj40eQpaAI/AAAAAAAAAoE/cCvvbBBE5VE/s320/Rebuilding_intake.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After some thinking, i decided to order a Trust Greddy(tm) Grex oil relocation system as i've seen that even with motor out of the car, the oil filter is not very accessible.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.rhdjapan.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/15545/Image/Normal/Image2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://www.rhdjapan.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/15545/Image/Normal/Image2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Normally, i will receive it next week so we can place it before placing the motor back in the car.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, i found a V-spec (non A-LSD) rear diff' with half mileage of my actual so i bought it, give it some paint refreshment and installed it on the car.<br />
I also gave some paint refreshment to the rear chassis bars and stabilizer as replacement with NISMO ones are not foreseen before next year.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
If all goes well, first start will be during second week of december. Fingers crossed. Hello eveybody<br />
<br />
Pour les francophones, je vous invite à suivre mon sujet sur le forum skyline passion :<br />
<a href="http://skylinepassion.xooit.com/t2461-BCR33-projet-lapin-cretin.htm">http://www.skylinepassion.fr/index/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=32</a><br />

<a href="http://www.japancar.fr/forum/Sujet-nissan-R33-Gtr">http://www.japancar.fr/forum/Sujet-nissan-R33-Gtr</a><br />
Par facilité, je ne posterai plus qu'en anglais ici (sauf tuto éventuel). <br />
<br />
As I already post on multiple forums in french, i will continue in English here.<br />
So english readers, don't hesitate to correct me if i make some mistakes.<br />
<br />
So back to business :<br />
Since last time, there was some evolution on the part "motor".<br />
I nearly received all the needed parts so the professional part of the rebuild had been launched.<br />
Once balancing of the crankshaft will be achieved, the DIY part (with a lot of help from my brother in law to be honest) could start.<br />
<br />
So in the meantime, I finished the installation of the amplifier (see below) <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I must admit that there must have a more clean way to do it but as it will be hidden in the boot, if it works, that will be enough for me.<br />
<br />
<span class="" id="result_box" lang="en"><span class="hps">I also</span> <span class="hps">received some</span> "non essential"<span class="hps"> parts</span> <span class="hps">but they will add some fun touch to the car:</span></span><br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Premier jour de vacances = Installation du cloisonnement TOMEI</div>
First day of my holiday = installation of the Tomei Oil baffle plate. For the english readers, sorry the rest will be in french as my technical english background is very poor. I assume that the pictures will speak by themselves.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
1) Démonter le système d'origine (les vis en rouge doivent être conservées pour le montage du cloisonnement TOMEI, les bleues seront remplacées par celles forunies)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ekXKdv55lsY/UCDNZVyYnHI/AAAAAAAAAlo/GQECH7Rnl9A/s1600/d%C3%A9montage_cloisonnement_tomei.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ekXKdv55lsY/UCDNZVyYnHI/AAAAAAAAAlo/GQECH7Rnl9A/s320/d%C3%A9montage_cloisonnement_tomei.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6cymODoKSZw/UCDN0eThB1I/AAAAAAAAAlw/wF6qR6fWwoc/s1600/axe_carter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6cymODoKSZw/UCDN0eThB1I/AAAAAAAAAlw/wF6qR6fWwoc/s320/axe_carter.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br />
3) Démontage des bourrages d'extrémité (non illustré) </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
4) dépose des couvercles de la boite de transfert (pour enlever le tube qui gêne pour le perçage):<br />
<img height="240" src="http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1415/img0281br.jpg" width="320" /><br />
5) Sortir le planétaire (j'en ai profiter pour vérifier son état )<br />
<img height="240" src="http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/9039/img0284d.jpg" width="320" /><br />
<br />
6) Au moyen d'une douille (de 22?) d'une allonge et d'un marteau, pousser le tube depuis la boite de transfert. En deux petits coups de marteau, on a la place pour travailler:<br />
<img height="200" src="http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/6004/img0285mk.jpg" width="150" /><a href="http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/8056/img0288jh.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/8056/img0288jh.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
Une fois cela fait, vérifier l'état des joints O-ring situé de part et d'autre (vu que mon moteur et peu kilométré, je n'y ai pas touché ). </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<img height="240" src="http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/967/img0289kt.jpg" width="320" /><br />
<br />
8) Installation du cloisonnement (d'abord mettre la partie avec les volets en caoutchouc et effectuer les retouches nécessaires):</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<img height="400" src="http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/3209/img0292dj.jpg" width="300" /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
9) Replacer le tube en l'introduisant côté opposé à la boite de transfert (attention, il y a un ergot)<br />
<br />
<img height="150" src="http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/5696/img0294ll.jpg" width="200" /><a href="http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9523/img0295nq.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9523/img0295nq.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
<br />
11) Il ne restera plus qu'à replacer 2 joints d'extrémité chez Nissan (38342-03V00 et 38432-03V10) pour terminer la partie carter.</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
